Thank you for visiting my profile page! My name is Maria and I am a TEFL-certified teacher of English. I also know some Italian and have a huge curiosity about other languages and the world in general. I have lived and worked in many regions of the U.S., Singapore, India, and Russia.

Given my extensive background in the corporate world, my specialty is Business English. However, I love conversation classes as well!
I aim to make our lessons interactive, fun, and focused on real-life language, not endless conjugations and worksheets. We will use articles, recent news, short videos, games, and stories. If you prefer studying using a specific book, focus only on conversation or get lots of homework, just let me know. You are the Boss!My lessons & teaching style
My teaching method is based on communication, hence, we will focus on conversation in each class but will definitely not ignore other skills.
BUSINESS ENGLISH: I am here to help you improve your English for work, assist with writing your resume, even prepare for interviews. We will work together on composing business correspondence, preparing PowerPoint presentations, practicing for interviews and meetings. We will use business-related topics for discussion and review.
CONVERSATION (ENG/RUS): We won’t be filling out countless workbook exercises but working on speaking and understanding real-life English.My teaching material

TEFL/TESOL - Bridge Education Group - 2019I have completed 120-hour Primary Certification training as well as 60 hours of Foundations in Teaching English Online and 60 hours of Advanced Methods in Teaching English Online. As part of this program, I prepared lesson plans for adults and children of different language proficiency, demonstrated my knowledge of advanced grammar and various methods to help students acquire information, retain it, and use it to communicate appropriately. I also studied in detail how to teach Business English.

ManagerAs most of my professional experience has been and continues to be inside the corporate world, I am confident that I can help my students advance their Business English skills.
I have provided specialized advisory services on various assignments with clients in SE Asia, Japan, South Africa, and the U.S. across multiple industries. This experience would also help me connect on meaningful levels with people from different cultures. During my time with PwC, I also worked for 4 years in Singapore.

Senior ManagerWhile contributing to my experience in the corporate world, this role also allows me to review complex reports prepared by the non-native speakers of English in our global offices. I often edit and offer suggestions on improvements to the language used, so we can deliver the message in a clear, concise manner. Throughout my career, I’ve enjoyed teaching and coaching; I’ve always loved offering guidance, suggesting possible improvements, encouraging hard work, and celebrating success together.
2005 - 2007
Cultural Care Au PairAs an au pair, I tutored a 12-yo child in my host family in various subjects, including English and Russian. I helped her study for middle school and high school exams. This experience made me understand that everyone learns differently, that it is paramount to tailor teaching methods to the needs of a particular student. I also practiced creating educational materials appropriate for my student's age and level of knowledge in different subjects. Finally, I learnt that I really enjoyed teaching!
