I grew up in California, but I have lived outside of the United States since I was 22. I enjoy learning languages and I can generally adjust pretty well to different cultural situations. I am an outdoor enthusiast, and in particular I enjoy hiking and kayaking, but playing basketball is also fun. When I'm at home, I enjoy reading (mostly non-fiction) and cooking (mostly Asian food).Me as a Teacher
I have taught English for ten years in three different countries: Taiwan, Germany and Turkey. Each place presented students with contrasting learning styles and in each place I taught learners of different levels. I find Beginners fun to teach because I can play games and address a variety of useful language topics with them, but more advanced learners are also appealing simply because we can cover a greater variety of real-world material. I acquired a CELTA certificate in 2015, and currently I am working on the DELTA. My lessons & teaching style
My style of teaching is very student-centered, and my goal in each lesson is for the students to produce as much as possible with whatever content we are learning. I believe in a task-based approach in which the students can learn through doing while the teacher facilitates and guides them. I often use pictures, charts or videos to help illustrate word meanings or to provide a context, and I try to avoid straight-forward lecturing. However, if students do need grammar points explained to them, I can do so concisely and provide quick and useful examples.Certificates
