Hi, I’m Cátia — a native Portuguese teacher and certified language coach with over 18 years of experience teaching Portuguese and English to adult learners.
I support students with a wide range of goals — from improving everyday communication to preparing for CAPLE exams (A2–C2) — always with clarity, structure and encouragement.

I graduated from Porto University as a Portuguese and English teacher. I've been teaching since 2006 and I've had taught primary English (children), Business English (adults), Portuguese as a foreign language (adults) and all levels of Portuguese and English in Elementary and Secondary schools and language schools. My eagerness to evolve my career as pushed me to try online teaching and since 2018 I've been successfully teaching Portuguese as a foreign language to people all over the world!My lessons & teaching style
I strongly believe that foreign language lessons should be focused on students' speaking skills. Grammar and vocabulary items shouldn't be randomly presented to students but entangled in the right context. I use the role-playing strategy not only to engage students but also to create context to meaningful learning contents. If you want to learn English or Portuguese in order to visit a country, it's important you learn how to order food at a restaurant or ask for directions to a local. So the "packs" of vocabulary and grammar you need to learn must be taught in a way the you will be capable of engaging on real conversations later on.My teaching material

Many thanks to Cátia for the excellent preparation for the recent CIPLE (A2) exam. Was thrilled to hear the result last week of “muito bom”. Having a clear understanding, ahead of time, of the exam format and the full range of expectations (grammar, vocabulary, format, cultural competence, etc., etc.) helped immensely. Looking forward now to preparing with Cátia for the DEPLE (B1) exam. I highly recommend Cátia for tutoring on any CAPLE exam preparation.
