Hi friends! My name is Annafay. I am a former anthropology student and freelance language tutor currently living in a village in South Korea. Former places of residence include Beijing, Urumqi, Bishkek, Paris and London.
In my free time, you can find me taking long walks, doing yoga and listening to podcasts, or else hunched over my computer working on my novel. I'm passionate about stories - I love making up my own, as well as hearing people tell theirs! I also enjoy singing, drawing, acting, and making fermented foods such as sourdough bread or kimchi.

I have several years of teaching experience online and offline, as well as speaking six languages myself. I am convinced language learning can be both smooth and enjoyable! I will help you recreate an immersive experience at home, and sustain momentum with good habits and interesting content.
If you are just starting out or have specific questions, you are welcome to switch to English, German, Chinese, Korean, Russian or French during class, although I will always stick to your target language as much as possible.
Most of my students rely on semi-structured conversations to build comprehension, vocabulary and confidence. However, our sessions can be one or a mix of the following: My lessons & teaching style
Coversation practice: Either you propose a topic or I pick a question/video/article to discuss.
Writing: Practise writing about a subject that's important to you, or get prompts from me!
Dialogue and roleplay to prepare for specific situations: Such as life in a foreign country, a presentation, or travelling to Mars.
Beginner's German: For people at A1 and A2 level. We work through a structured, intuitive online course together, tackling personal difficulties along the way.
German or Chinese through songs: Traditional, modern, and everything in between.
German or Chinese through poetry: For more advanced learners and fellow poetry enthusiasts.My teaching material

Annafay is truly a gem on Italki. She is not only an experienced teacher, but also a patient and supportive friend who truly sees you and encourages you.
