My name is Xavery Mpombo from Tanzania. I’ve been helping learners from around the world speak Swahili since 2019, and over the years, I’ve developed effective, enjoyable methods and resources that truly help students make progress.
I’m certified by the National Swahili Council of Tanzania (BAKITA) and hold a bachelor’s degree from Sokoine University of Agriculture.
I speak Swahili, English, and Ngoni, and I’m also learning Spanish, so I understand what it feels like to learn a new language from scratch — the excitement, the challenges, and the joy of small wins. My lessons reflect that understanding.Me as a Teacher

As an experienced language teacher and learner, I believe that becoming fluent in a language involves several steps and some hard work — but if you put in the effort, you will see progress. I adjust my teaching to fit your unique learning style and keep a log of your progress so you can see how far you’ve come. This log also helps us review past materials and plan what to learn next, keeping everything organized and efficient.

Xavery began teaching our elementary school age children about a year and a half ago. They knew no Kiswahili. He worked with them for about half an hour 2-4 times per week. They are now conversational. He is patient and engaging. He continually tries to think of new ways to explain and engage our children. He is encouraging and kind!

English speakers who want to learn Swahili - Xavery is 100% your best option!! I went from not speaking a single word of Swahili besides “hakuna matata” to being able to make small talk and have surface level conversation in only a few short months to prepare for a trip to Tanzania.
He has a VERY excellent grasp on how to teach a language effectively, and a very good instinct for understanding common mistakes from English speakers because he is also a great English speaker himself who has learned from the other direction.
I have had many language teachers over the years and I can tell you Xavery is one of the best I’ve had. Truly a great teacher who communicates concepts effectively, and on top of that, is an incredibly kind and patient person!

My last few months with Xavery have been one of my favorite learning experiences to date. I originally heard about him through a friend who studied with him years ago, and I plan to recommend him to everyone I know. His approach is incredibly low-stress, and he arrives to every lesson in a great mood, ready to help.
