English Pronunciation & Accent Coaching from a PhD Linguist I am a native speaker of English from the UK and I'm motivated to help English language learners achieve their goals. I have in-depth knowledge of English linguistics and phonetics from over 20 years of academic and professional work on speech and language. I'm also familiar with American and Canadian English (among other varieties), having lived in North America for over a decade. I hold an ESL certificate and a PhD in Language & Cognition. I've created and analysed language tests at ETS, conducted IELTS-format tests and am familiar with other tests too. I'm easy-going, approachable, insightful, clear, and sensitive. I also have experience teaching students of English and Linguistics. I've taught students of all ages and levels of proficiency. I have extensive expertise in pronunciation and academic writing. If you are interested in practising these skills, I'll be especially useful to you. I like to get to know my students and their skills, so we'll likely spend the beginning of our first session chatting about ourselves. I'll take this as an opportunity to identify your linguistic strengths and weaknesses. I tailor my sessions and materials to your goals, so please share your learning preferences with me. I aim for a mixture of presentation, focused/free practice, and spontaneous conversation. I keep up to date on developments in language teaching and learning research, so that I can use those teaching techniques that have been proven most effective.
