Today I hung out with my Korean friend and she commented on how much I was able to understand compared to the first time I met her six months ago. I've been really working on my listening skills with Shinnie lately, and he has given me methods for studying and practicing listening effectively. In the last several months I went from having to stop and ask my friend to explain almost every single sentence that she said, to being able to listen to her tell me all about her vacation and actually understanding almost all of it. Shinnie's methods are so much more valuable than traditional book learning and really prepare you for actual conversations and situations in Korean. I'm very grateful to him for getting me to this point and I'm excited to continue learning with Shinnie.

I had another wonderful lesson with Shinnie. His teaching style is easy to follow and when he explains things in Korean it is always in a comprehensible way. The lessons are always fun, interesting and engaging. One thing I particularly enjoy is that his lessons are structured with his own curriculum, but that he is free to change it according to your needs. We have started doing mainly conversations nowadays, and even though my speaking is nowhere near as fluent, he is really patient and makes me feel comfortable. Which allowed me to have more confidence in my ability to speak and hold at least some small conversations (I think). Besides that it’s good to discuss my findings during immersion with Shinnie, because he has a great understanding of the language. Overall, I would highly recommend Shinnie to anyone looking for a Korean tutor on italki. They are knowledgeable, patient, and adept at tailoring their lessons to the student's specific needs and interests.

This is the most disrespectful teacher on iTalki and has no patience teaching others. If you want to be insulted because you don’t understand his English or Korean then he’s for you. He considers not understanding him complaining. If you are not moving at the pace he wants, he gets pissed off. He wants you to only think the way he wants you to think or you’re not working hard enough. I can’t believe I put up with him for 3 months because I was so desperate to learn the language and already had anxiety about teaching Korean. I can’t believe his positive reviews when he has no patience for people. He gives you a ton of words and grammar then says don’t memorize it. Then, he says “delete everything you’ve learned before” as if that’s even possible instead of correcting it and moving on. I said I will no longer continue the class. He then insulted me again and blocked me. He has no emotional maturity or patience. If you have anxiety about speaking Korean, please don’t take his class.

Shinnieshi always helps break down practicing and learning in very simple ways! When I have trouble remembering, he encourages different ways to study.
