Hello there! My name is Jessica (she/her) and I'm an American English speaker with an accent from the East Coast of the US. I currently teach adults and older teens online. I really enjoy my job because it gives me the opportunity to know people from different countries/cultures and learn about their experiences. In addition to that, I feel grateful to have the chance to help others improve a useful skill. In my free time, I love to try new foods and recipes, drink coffee/tea, travel, visit museums, go for hikes, and watch Youtube videos! :)
Me as a Teacher
I completed my certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (also known as TESOL), and I've enjoyed applying the theories and strategies I've learned through the course in my own classes. I am curious about efficiency when it comes to language learning, and for that reason I try to focus on building vocabulary and grammar that are memorable and immediately usable for my students. I believe there a difference between simply “learning” a language and truly acquiring it. Acquiring a language is difficult; it requires time, patience, dedication, and an open mind. Despite that, I think the results of those efforts are incredibly rewarding.
My lessons & teaching style
I currently offer three options for classes: "Express Yourself in English" and "Foundations of English" and "Editing/Proofreading in English."
"Express Yourself in English" is excellent for students who simply want to practice speaking and listening. The "Foundations of English" course is more structured and includes homework assignments. And, finally, "Editing/Proofreading in English" is for students who would like help with their writing. If you have an essay or email that you need help with, I can provide corrections/suggestions for your writing. My overall goal is to help students build their confidence in their abilities to express themselves - no matter the context.
