Certified Japanese teacher! Good for practicing conversation! Very beginner friendly and patient! Hello everyone! I'm Maiko! I'm from Fukuoka, Japan, and I've been living in the United States since 2020. I'm a certified Japanese teacher and have been teaching Japanese since 2017. I currently teach one-on-one lessons on italki and group classes at a Japanese cultural center in North Carolina. Beginners are very welcome! If you just started learning Japanese, don't worry! I teach many beginner students and have lots of experience helping them build a strong foundation. For beginners, I usually use the Genki textbook along with my original Google Slides. I add practical examples and explanations to help you understand grammar and use Japanese in real-life situations. You don't need to be perfect. Making mistakes is an important part of learning! If you're an intermediate learner, you may have experienced mostly listening during group conversations without many chances to speak. In my private lessons, I'll give you plenty of opportunities to speak Japanese while patiently supporting and encouraging you. We can work on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and natural expressions. I can customize lessons to help you improve your Japanese in a way that works for you. I also have a professional background as a registered dietitian in Japan, so I can offer lessons related to health, nutrition, food, and wellness. Outside of teaching, I love hiking, rock climbing, cooking, traveling, and eating! I look forward to meeting you!
