Hello. My name is Annie and I’m a Professional Teacher with italki. Originally from England, I’ve spent half my life abroad, setting foot in some 70 countries and living in eight, so am very familiar with other cultures. For the last 9 years I have lived in Ecuador. I speak Spanish and German and smatterings of several other languages. For the last 30 years I have been a practitioner and teacher of the Healing Arts, specifically Shiatsu and Thai Massage. I am also a writer, editor and visual artist. I love to be outdoors, tending my garden of vegetables and flowers & walking my dog. I do yoga, qigong, breathwork & Ecstatic Dance and am often involved in community projects.Me as a Teacher
I began teaching Shiatsu and health-related topics in 1995 in the UK, and from 2003-2005 taught English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to refugees, at the same college. I then taught Summer School at a Kurdish university, and from 2007-2011 taught English in various institutes and universities in Vietnam, where I was also an IELTS Examiner for Speaking and Writing. Then I taught for 2 years in Nairobi, and more recently in Peru and online. I’ve taught all ages and levels of General English, to groups and in private tutoring. My forte is with adults at more advanced levels.My lessons & teaching style
My online lessons depend very much on the student’s needs, be they just conversation on any variety of topics, current affairs or more structured lessons focused on grammar, comprehension, etc. I also do A LOT of IELTS preparation for speaking and writing. I am familiar with pronunciation issues and strategies for particular language speakers, and find teaching phonemes very useful. The history of English, etymology and ‘word families’ are beneficial in understanding and expansion of vocabulary. Most importantly, lessons should be interesting, relevant and fun!My teaching material
