Olá! I’m João, a native European Portuguese teacher from Lisbon. With a passion for history and travel, I weave Portugal’s rich culture into every lesson. Over 4 years, I’ve helped students master *real* conversations—whether you’re exploring grammar or chatting about local traditions. Let’s turn your language goals into adventures!
Me as a Teacher
Since I completed my TEFL certicate in 2017, I’ve taught both in the classroom and in private lessons, including nearly 5000 hours online. Teaching online requires a different set of skills as a teacher, and I believe over the past 4 years I have mastered these skills to provide a balance between learning grammar and vocabulary and spending as much time speaking and communicating as possible.My lessons & teaching style
If you are looking to learn European Portuguese with conversation, we will choose a topic that you like to talk about and we will discuss it.
If you are looking to improve your grammar, reading, writing and pronunciation skills, I have a wide range of materials I can provide. We can also have a mix, which works really well.

With João I have classes focused on Grammar and on Conversation. He uses many different resources, such as ebooks and articles, and is always well prepared. We do grammar exercises, read articles and talk about many different topics together so that I can learn new vocabulary easily. João is always encouraging and creates a safe environment so that it's easy for me to speak Portuguese. Obrigada João!
