My name is Ann (short for Andrea) and I am a German living in Ireland. Languages and different cultures have always been my passion. While in Germany, I graduated in business/economics and English. Afterwards, I lived in England for one year, where I completed an MA degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Nottingham.
Back in Germany, I started teaching English and business studies in a public vocational college. In summer 2010, I met a very special man while on holiday in Ireland. In August 2012, I completely changed my life and moved to the beautiful Emerald Isle.
Travelling is important to me, and I have visited most continents. I love to read and write. Nature inspires me.

Me as a Teacher
I am a very patient and encouraging teacher who loves seeing students succeed. My main goal as a teacher is to motivate learners, and provide them with knowledge for their specific needs.
My approach to classes can be very flexible. I am happy to have fun conversations - I love hearing about people's passions and interests, and I have lots of stories from my own life to share. However, if you are looking for a serious and structured lesson and grammar explanations, I can absolutely help you too.
I have been teaching for over 10 years, both in Ireland and in Germany. I enjoy teaching learners of all ages, but prefer not to teach children younger than 12.
My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are always interactive and fun. I am one of these people who actually enjoy grammar, so if you need help with grammar, look no further. My students have told me that my explanations are very clear. However, if you hate grammar and just want to talk, that's fine with me too. If you have a conversation class with me, I will summarise the main points in a document and forward it to you.
If you have no idea where to start and what to focus on, I am happy to provide you with materials and ideas. If you wish to talk about specific topics, we can absolutely do that too. I have a background in business and economics, so if you need language skills in this field, do let me know.

I find lessons with Ann very enjoyable and I always learn something to try and improve my German. We review and discuss texts, but also have a conversation about what I have been doing, the weather and other topics. Ann sets me homework, which I send her before my next lesson. We go through this in the lesson to correct my mistakes and understand why I have made the error.
Ann is herself learning a new language and so has insight into how challenging learning and using a new language can be. I am very happy to recommend Ann to anyone wishing to learn and/or improve their German.

I cannot recommend Ann D. highly enough! Every lesson is thoughtfully prepared, engaging, fun, and productive. I like that the lesson time can be very structured or very relaxed depending on the learning goal, and I appreciate how flexible Ann always is when it comes to impromptu changes for whatever material we are working on. I have never been bored with a lesson and always feel like I have my own world-class private tutor. Ann is extremely supportive and patient, and her devotion to teaching the language is evident from the very first lesson, and never diminishes. (I've done over 100 lessons with her, so I know!) Ann is an absolute force that you'll want on your side as you are learning German.

It is so nice to talk to Ann, I am not afraid to make mistakes and it helps me a lot to become more confident in speaking German. I did 1 groupsession with Ann and 1 private lesson. I enjoyed both very much!

A fantastic lesson with Ann. She was so patient and made excellent conversation. I really appreciated that she also wrote down new words and phrases for me in the chat.
