My Kannada teacher is exceptionally patient and precise in her teaching. She explains the exact meaning and subtle nuances behind words in a way that makes the language truly understandable, not just memorised. Even when I shared my experience of being in ‘Japanese language mode’ after my trip and temporarily struggling with Kannada recall, she was understanding and encouraging throughout. She creates a comfortable learning environment where mistakes feel safe and learning feels natural. A truly great teacher.

I asked Jayashree for help with a transcription I had struggled with, as I couldn’t recognize some letters. During the lesson, she immediately identified that the text was in haLe Kannada (Old Kannada), not hosa Kannada (modern Kannada). The letters I had been struggling with don’t even exist in the modern script — what a relief! She clearly explained the differences between the two forms and showed how the script evolved. The lesson turned into an unexpectedly fascinating exploration of Kannada history. I left feeling reassured, motivated, and very grateful for her deep knowledge and patient guidance. Then she shared a lovely song which she helped me translating and we had a good laugh over some of my misunderstandings - so grateful for such a wonderful teacher !

Have been thoroughly enjoying my lessons with ಜಯಶ್ರೀ ಅವರೇ. We will soon be finished with the novel we are reading : ). She adapts to your learning style. For example, when I asked her to give me a sentence when I encounter unknown vocabulary, she readily gives me a sentence to help me remember it. My Kannada has improved a lot!

Hosa varshada shubhashayagaLu! In today’s class, I had a wonderful opportunity to share my travel experiences. I talked about my recent trip to Morocco, describing the vibrant markets, stunning architecture, and the delicious food I tried there. It was exciting to express my experiences in Kannada, it helped me learn new vocabulary related to travel and culture that Jayashree gave me. My teacher also shared her trip to Sri Lanka. Overall, the hour flew too fast, I enjoyed it a lot, feel lucky to have such a wonderful teacher who explains the ethymology of words - like a top (angi) is something that covers the organ (anga) - which helps me memorize stuff! Thank you !
