TEFL/CIPELE certified Puerto Rican linguist who has 10 years of experience & can speak 5 languages Hello fellow linguaphiles! My name's Osvaldo but people usually call me Valdo. I could also be called 偶巴多 (中文), Oswald (auf Deutsch), or Освальдо (по-русски). My native language is Spanish but I also have a native fluency and proficiency in English. I have a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a Master's degree in Linguistics. I enjoy travelling, exercising, running, kayaking, dancing, and learning new languages. I've lived in Puerto Rico for most of my life but I also spent some time living abroad in Beijing, China and in Berlin, Germany. I have a TEFL certification from ITA (International TEFL Academy) and I've been teaching ESL since 2015. I also have a CIPELE certification from the University of Salamanca. I've taught Spanish since 2021. I have experience working with students of different ages and levels of proficiency. I've taught children, teenagers, and adults with beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of proficiency. I have experience teaching online, at language learning centers, and at traditional schools. I've had group classes and individual 1-on-1 classes too. I've also taught basic Mandarin Chinese at a local university. I use all kinds of tools and resources to teach classes online. I like to have my students do different types of exercises to help them improve their language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and comprehension). I've used various platforms like zoom, skype, google hangouts, kahoot, and youtube. I have also used sev...

Valdo is a phenomenal teacher - attentive and creative. I have taken 3 weeks of lessons and see a dramatic improvement in my comfort with speaking and understanding Spanish.

I am on a mission to learn Spanish and Valdo is the best! I took a while looking at other teachers' profiles and chose Valdo because of his qualifications and excellent reviews. I look forward to my lessons every week, each time there is new material or we are reviewing to really let it sink in. Lots of variety, and he provides resources so that I can continue practicing Spanish outside of class as well. Valdo is a fantastic teacher, and just a really cool person in general.

You won't regret taking lessons with Osvaldo, whether you want to learn Spanish in general or you want to dive deep into Puerto Rico's particular flavor of the language as I do. Very helpful, mellow, supportive, and informative.
