My name is Gonzalo and I'm a linguist whose mother tongues are Castilian Spanish and Galician. I'm passionate about foreign languages and Linguistics, and have studied lots of different languages, dead and alive, in my life, reaching fluency in two: English and Portuguese.
Besides language, my hobbies range from reading about the Iberian ancient history to staying active, spending time outdoors and catching up on the latest gadgets.
I'm also pretty decent at drawing and painting, but hardly ever have the time to set about doing it. When I'm not preparing materials or teaching, I'm outdoors.Me as a Teacher
Ever since I graduated from university, I've worked as a translator and a foreign language teacher: I've provided private tuition and have worked for several companies and town councils, which led me to specialise in adult teaching with a postgraduate course.
In August 2020, I began to work through Italki. During this last year, I have helped quite a lot of people improve or master Spanish, among some other languages; and have gained experience as an online tutor.My lessons & teaching style
I'm fully convinced that languages can only be learned. Unfortunately, a lot of people believe that native teachers have the ability to upload their mother tongue into their students' brains. However, learning a language requires determination, focus and discipline. What teachers can do is to coach the student along the learning process.

English teacherI was hired by Madrid-based Union Pacific company and worked as an in-company English teacher for two client companies: AENA, where I taught the airport director advanced English one-to-one for 60 h, and Ascensores OTIS, where I taught the manager pre-intermediate English one-to-one for 120 h.
2019 - 2019
English teacherI was hired by Lalín-based Alvalop Servicios XXI company and taught two pre-intermediate English courses (80 h) at the municipality's civil centres in the towns of Milladoiro and Bertamiráns. I programmed the courses and created the lessons myself.
2012 - 2020
Translator (EN > ES/PT)I've worked on and off as a general translator (EN > ES/PT) for the last ten years. The activity itself led me to specialise in technical and tourist translation and I'm familiar with texts such as instruction manuals, product datasheets and travel agency websites, amonst many others.

Gonzalo is an awesome teacher!
I'm learning Spanish and Galician with him. He is very professional, but also fun and interesting. He values your input for what you'd like to get from a class, but is clearly very experienced and has no problems guiding the class so that you get the most out of it.
His feedback is really helpful and constructive, and he is really effective at making you feel comfortable enough to speak a lot and make mistakes/ ask questions without feeling embarrassed.
I feel like I'm learning a lot, and the classes are fun, so I look forward to them each week. His English is also impeccable.
