I’m a linguist with a degree in English, native in 🏰 Castilian Spanish and Galician, and passionate about building bridges between Galicia, Spain, the UK, Ireland, and the USA.
Fluent in English and Portuguese, with expertise in languages and translation, I have years of teaching experience helping students go beyond grammar to truly connect with the language and its speakers.
With formal training in ✈️ tourism and a passion for Galician culture and heritage, I bring cultural insights to every lesson so you can speak naturally, grasp nuances, and use Spanish or Galician in real-life situations.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, 🎨 sketching and spending time outdoors.
Ever since I graduated from university, I have worked as a translator 💻 and a foreign language teacher. I have provided private tutoring and have collaborated with several companies and town councils 🏛️, which led me to specialise in adult education through an official training course.
In August 2020, I began working with Italki. Over the past four years, I have assisted numerous individuals in improving or mastering their skills in Spanish, Galician and Portuguese, gaining extensive experience as an online tutor. 📈
I am fully convinced that languages can only be learned through effort and practice. I don’t have enough positive words to describe my experience learning with Gonzalo - as a teacher he is incredibly professional, but equally calm, patient and supportive. I learn both Galego and Castellano with him and have made such great progress since starting a few months ago. Gonzalo always has a clear idea of where improvements need to be made in my level, such ability only being possible through his years of experience and natural talent for teaching. Gonzalo is an awesome teacher!
I'm learning Spanish and Galician with him. He is very professional, but also fun and interesting. He values your input for what you'd like to get from a class, but is clearly very experienced and has no problems guiding the class so that you get the most out of it.
His feedback is really helpful and constructive, and he is really effective at making you feel comfortable enough to speak a lot and make mistakes/ ask questions without feeling embarrassed.
I feel like I'm learning a lot, and the classes are fun, so I look forward to them each week. His English is also impeccable.
