About Me
italki teacher since Nov 10, 2020
Hi! My name is Aviv and I am a teacher, writer and editor. I was born in Israel and lived there until my early twenties, then began to travel and move around the world.
I lived and taught in the United States, Japan and Canada, and am currently residing in Antwerp, Belgium. Needless to say, I have a passion for interacting with others, experiencing different cultures, locations and life styles.
In 2011 following my graduation from NSCAD University in Halifax, Canada, I began teaching extended studies classes at the university. I taught English to exchange students, as well as video editing and Photoshop.
In wake of the Covid19 pandemic I decided to bring my classes to an online format.
Me as a Teacher
I take great pleasure and pride in teaching others. To me it is a bond of trust, and I think that in these days of social isolation that bond is especially valuable.
My students I hope would attest that I am a patient and friendly instructor. I strive to create a pleasant and encouraging learning environment and value professionalism.
The learning and retaining process is paramount to me. I always make sure my students are following up, and untangle any difficulties before moving ahead.
As a teacher (and person) I am very open to all people. It is crucial I believe to have effective communication between teacher and student, and I count empathy amongst my strongest assets.
My lessons & teaching style
My teaching style is highly interactive. It is my strong belief that languages are living dynamic things, and need to be lived in order to be learnt.
My lessons are therefore always hands on, and followed by relevant exercises or assignments to assure comprehension. Practice makes perfect, but I avoid repetition to keep the material fresh. Sessions are focused around a theme. I introduce goals for every lesson and provide notes.
My classes are always tailored to the needs and interests of my students. I plan ahead for every session, but am mindful to let my students set the pace.
I always encourage questions, discussion or feedback. They are an invaluable part of the learning process.

I am taking my lessons with Aviv for almost a year now. I am pleased with the way he teaches. He is very patient and explains well. And most importantly I am improving my Hebrew with his help.

excellent as usual and Aviv has a tough job with us because he accommodates me and 3kids who attend for only 1/2 session. He is very flexible and provides appropriate age material.

Today I took my first lesson with Aviv, and I highly recommend him as a teacher! He's very patient, his explanations were clear, and his class was done in a very friendly environment. If you're looking for someone to learn Hebrew with, Aviv is the person you are looking for!
