PROFESSIONAL TEACHER WITH OVER 1 700 CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH AND AFRIKAANS LESSONS TAUGHT My name is Annemarie, and I am based in Johannesburg, South Africa. With approximately 23 years of general teaching experience and 6 years as a Conversational English and Afrikaans Professional Teacher on Italki, I bring a wealth of expertise to my students. I am passionate about helping learners gain confidence and fluency in both Conversational English and Afrikaans, and it is truly rewarding to see their progress. To date, I have taught over 1,700 lessons and I still love my job! I would describe my teaching style as very interactive. I prefer to create a teaching environment that encourages critical thinking and elicits responses from my students rather than having them merely retain and repeat information. I make use of different websites and encourage my students to read to improve both vocabulary and fluency. And then: revise, revise, revise! My lessons are tailor made to suite the individual needs of my students. My lessons are interactive and inclusive and I use a conversational approach rather than a lecturing approach, depending on the interests and goals of my students. I think that I have an edge because, after a lesson where grammar was included, I usually do an audio version of the lesson materials so that my students have the correct pronunciation on their WhatsApp profiles on their mobile phones.
