*Please visit 「meikasensei.com」or search 「meikasensei」on Instagram to know more about me!* I am Japanese, born and raised in Japan. When I was in college, I did a year-long exchange program at an American university. I met students who loved Japan, the culture, learning Japanese, and worked very hard to learn it. As I was helping them learn Japanese, I realized that I wanted to be a Japanese language teacher.

Me as a Teacher
After three years of working in an office, I couldn't give up my dream of becoming a Japanese language teacher, so I attended a Japanese language teacher training course. After 420 hours of classes, I obtained my certification and have been working as a teacher at a Japanese language school since 2017.
I love my job. I am happy when someone says, "Your teaching style is the easiest to understand" or "I'm glad you are my teacher". Those moments make me feel really lucky to have this job.
My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are 99% conversational and verbal with very little use of books. I show flashcards, picture cards, and do a lot of speaking practice. The lessons are mainly in Japanese. I can control the speed of my speech and the vocabulary used, depending on the level of the student. This helps students improve their speaking and listening skills.
The grammar taught is mainly at the beginner's level (N5 to N4). Therefore, the course is not just suitable for beginners who want to study for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), but also for those who love Japanese culture and would like to talk with Japanese.

I have been having lessons with Meika sensei close to 12 months and intend to continue having lessons with her next year. Meika is a passionate teacher with many resources. I highly recommend her blog for her short stories that provide reading practice and learning new words and grammar. Meika's lessons are well structured and fun. She is a very good language teacher and I highly recommend her for all levels of Japanese language learning.

Today was my first Japanese class ever and I’m so glad I chose Meikaさん. She is very funny and makes you feel very relaxed. We started with Hiragana (Japanese letters), numbers 0-10, and a few basic greetings. She also gives homework (if you want/have time to do it) to help you practice what you learned during the lesson. She has you repeat sounds, words, and phrases so you can practice speaking and memorize what you are learning, and reviews as you go, to make sure you’re not forgetting anything. The best part for me was that I was having fun while learning. I look forward to our next lesson. Arigatō gozaimasu!

First full hour lesson with Meika. She was incredibly prepared and sent me print outside of the kanji and vocab we would be going over in class ahead of time. It was a very structured and professional style class which I really enjoyed. Meika made sure we stayed on schedule and helped explain anything that I didn't understand.
We spent the start of class practicing conversation, then after words studied kanji and worked on practice sentences using them. She was very patient and kind which made class feel very comfortable. She even sent a recap of what kanji we went over and the homework that was assigned. I really enjoy he focused and planned out lessons as they help me learn easier! I would definitely recommend her!
