Hello! My name is Kelly and I am a TEFL-certified English instructor. I am originally from L.A. and I completed my undergraduate degree at UCLA. In 2009 I moved to Idaho. I love it out here, but I am still getting used to the chilly winters. From the end 2016 to the end of 2017 I lived in Costa Rica. Traveling is one of my favorite activities. I love meeting people from all over the globe. I have many hobbies. They include reading, math, and history. I also enjoy eating and trying new foods. One of my favorite topics to discuss with my students is food. I work as a copy editor and proofreader when I am not teaching.Me as a Teacher
I have been teaching for over 20 years, but did not receive my TEFL certification until 2016. I began out teaching in person, but started teaching online in 2016 when I first joined italki. I left italki for a while because I was living abroad and did not have a stable internet connection, but I continued teaching English in person. As a teacher, I understand the challenges you face because I am learning another language, too. I can relate to your concerns and fears about speaking another language. I think it's important to talk about the things that interest YOU. This is why I offer a variety of classes, including a literature class and a "virtual coffeehouse" practice session.My lessons & teaching style
My lessons are structured, but there is room for flexibility. Each student is different, so I adapt my lessons to the needs of the individual. I include a lot of humor in my lessons because I feel that is the best way to make students feel comfortable speaking English. Humor provides a positive experience, encouraging the student to continue learning. I am very patient and provide lots of encouragement. Homework and extra practice opportunities are always available to students who want more practice. I hope you will join me on your journey to learn English.My teaching material

I felt really comfortable when I had a class with Kelly teacher. When I had questions her answers were so perfect as well. I would love to keep having classes with Kelly so I actually booked another session. I'm really looking forward to studying again with Kelly teacher!!

Kelly is one of the best teachers of English one could ever hope to engage. I did not hire her to provide me with instruction in English since I am myself a native speaker, but rather as a literary consultant. I wanted her to offer me guidance on which books to read and critical evaluations of specific passages and texts. This would have necessitated that she be far more proficient in English than the run-of-the-mill English teacher, but I can attest that she met and exceeded my expectations.
