Hi, everyone, I'm Sylvia, I can speak Mandarin(native) and English (IELTS 7.5). →Obtained Teaching Chinese as a Second Language(TCSL) Certificate in 2011. →Majored in English Linguistics(MA), English Language and Literature(BA). →Patient, easygoing and inspiring as a learning and practicing partner. →Interested in traveling, coffee making, diving(scuba/free-dive) and dancing, etc. Hope to see you in my class~

Me as a Teacher

Practice makes perfect! I taught Mandarin on a part-time basis since 2011. My students are mostly from beginners to intermediate level. Most of them are adults from the UK., Germany, France, etc. I employ different teaching methods and contents based on learners’ levels, interests and progress. I believe the most efficient way to learn Mandarin or any other second language is not to memorize it but to use it in daily communications.

My lessons & teaching style

Before the formal class, we are going to know each other first and discuss class plans, which may fall in one the 4 categories below. (1) Beginners We start with pin-yin first and then move on to daily oral communication. Reading and writing is additional if you are interested, but not required. (2) Free Talks Presentation/discussion on a specific topic. (3) Intermediate Comprehensive listening, reading, writing and speaking in Mandarin. (4) Advanced Speaking and reading like a Chinese. Well, if none of these above meet your needs, I’m happy to personalize class contents based on your interests.
