Hello. My name is Makiko from Japan. I live in Aichi prefecture.
I have 3 children and enjoy Japanese traditional events-New Year, the Doll festival, the star festival, viewing the full moon in Sep. And so on with them.
I've been teaching 'Warabe-uta', traditional old kids songs, to children.
My hobbies are traveling (both international and domestic) and eating. I've been to many countries such as the USA, Germany, Turkey, Greek, Thai, Taiwan, New Zealand and so on.
I'm interested in your country and the local food in your country. Please let me know about them :)
Me as a Teacher
I have a qualification to teach Japanese for both adults and children.
I completed ”the 420hours of Japanese Teachers' Training Course” and passed ”the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test”.
I enjoy teaching Japanese at Japanese language schools and online.
For children, I completed and passed "AJLC Certificate Course in Japanese Language Teaching to Children" and got the advanced Certificate, too.
I've been teaching Japanese to children mainly online now, but I've been teaching Japanese (and also school subjects) for children who study Japanese in Japan for more than 6 years. I heve also been teaching at an international school.
My lessons & teaching style
My lesson has 3 courses.
1. kids lesson for all ages
The lesson is based on AJLC curriculum. (Children will speak not only Japanese words but also in sentences!)
…for younger kids, learn basic Japanese(greetings, colors...) having fun.
…for school kids, how to write Hiragana in addition to conversation.
2. free talk
You can choose a topic you want to talk about
…Japanese culture, food, travel, hobbies, job, anything…
3. text lesson
We use 'minna no nihongo'-text based on grammar or 'irodori'-online text.
…tell me which one you want to use.
**mainly speak only Japanese, but sometimes use English**
**Don't worry if you don't speak well.**
**I'll send you a feedback.**
Makiko sensei really helped me get more comfortable with speaking. I know I’m still terrible and I know virtually zero about grammar but she still was instructive, gave examples, and really helped make the lesson flow well. She also gave me notes on what we were saying (in hiragana) and also we spoke about what kinds of practice I could do to help my progress. I’m going to get more lessons from her! 楽しみです !

Makiko sensei is a wonderful teacher. She is fun, patient, and kind. She's well-prepared and knows how to get my 6-year-old son (advanced beginner) to talk in full sentences. I highly recommend her!
Makiko is the best! She makes learning Japanese accessible and fun. She is patient, upbeat, and kind. Our daughter laughs a lot and grows more confident in her Japanese skills each week. Thank you Makiko San!
