I've been working with Ken for about 5 years now and highly recommend him! He is always patient and punctual and cheerful and engaged. He makes an effort to find relevant topics of interest to discuss and is happy to divert to grammar, culture and vocab questions. Our classes are typically half an hour of general current affairs or life chat in Chinese and then for half an hour I read aloud a transcript of a suitable podcast I have found and he helps with vocab and grammar questions. He is flexible for any lesson format you would like.

Our previous 45-minute classes always felt like they went by too quickly, so this time I decided to combine two classes into one timeslot. Ken really knows so much about history, and I feel like you can learn and grasp a lot from the way he explains each topic.
Since this was already our third class together, I also felt much more comfortable asking additional questions beyond our planned topics, which made the lesson even more interesting and engaging.
Really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. Looking forward to the next one!

I recommend learning history with Ken. He knows and loves Chinese history well and helps you read it. Don’t think your Chinese isn’t good enough, Ken can use simple sentences to explain the stories and clarifies the vocabulary. He even knows European history to make comparisons, and it is always a lively and enjoyable lesson.

This was my first-ever class on italki, and I really appreciated how smoothly the teacher guided the lesson. They encouraged me to talk about my passions and hobbies to better understand my interests and find the best learning approach for me. It was a great first experience!

He is very patient and helped walk through an upcoming trip I have to a Chinese restaurant. He gave me feedback while keeping my confidence high.
