My name is Julie and I am 37 years old living in the United States of America. I enjoy traveling, playing video games and cooking. I lived in Japan for 5 years, and during that time I traveled to Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and China. I also traveled all over Japan to places such as Okinawa, Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka, Nagoya, Takayama, Shirakawago and many many more. I love learning how to cook dishes from all over the world and I sometimes took cooking classes at the places I visited. I cook almost every day!

Me as a Teacher

I spent 5 years teaching English in public middle schools within Japan. After my day job, I would tutor Japanese adults in TOEFL prep, "eikaiwa" (English conversation) or business English. I also have experience tutoring children ages 5 to 12 within Japan and Italki. We often use flashcards to learn, and sometimes even games. In 2020 I received my TEFL certificate after taking an online course. I wanted to have a certificate to go with my experience! I believe that patience is very important when it comes to learning a language. I am patient with students, and can adapt the lesson around their needs.

My lessons & teaching style

I believe having fun and practicing everyday is the best way to learn a language! I like to focus on why the students want to learn English, and will build my lessons around that reason! I like to make my own worksheets or find ones online that focus on grammar, spelling or sentence making. *NOTE* All lessons must be booked through Italki. I will not arrange lessons or payments outside of the Italki website. I will not download any additional classroom programs or learning tools. *Lesson cancellation policy* Due to the large number of last minute cancellations, causing me to lose money and time, I will no longer reschedule last minute cancellations unless it's due to an emergency.
