I was born and grew up in Japan. I came to Australia to undertake tertiary education where I undertook a double degree in B.A. in Language & linguistics/B.Ed. I started my career in Australian local schools (primary&secondary) as a classroom teacher. Since then, I have teaching/tutoring experience across primary, secondary, tertiary and adult learners for over 10 years.

Me as a Teacher
I am a professional Japanese teacher and have been teaching with italki since 2013. I can assist absolute beginner to highly advanced level students (including N5-N1 preparation), who are willing to manage aspects of their own learning. Thanks to many of my students, I have been become one of the most experienced Japanese teachers at italki.
I use PPT and Word documents to explain grammar points, etc. in English. My native tongue is Japanese, but I am trained and qualified to teach in Australia and I am more comfortable to explain Japanese in English. This may be more advantageous for English speakers. I may use less to no English for advanced students.
My lessons & teaching style
Informal Tutoring (WITHOUT Textbooks, Planned Topics or Lesson Plans): This is the place to practise speaking Japanese. I correct errors whilst we converse about any subject we may be interested in within this relaxed atmosphere. Due to the advanced nature of the course, this is ONLY for INTERMEDIATE+ learners, who are comfortable to conversing in Japanese.
Professional lessons (WITH Lesson Plans and Textbooks/Resources): Structural lessons with text books. Textbooks from the Japanese education system and newspaper articles can also be used. I am happy to assist with: Homework/Assignments, Proof Reading/Reviewing, Preparation for examinations, etc. Recognition of Hiragana is essential.

Kara sensei is a great Japanese teacher! In classes, we talk in Japanese for a while before diving into the textbook, which gives a lot of practical practice. Kara is very positive and joyful and makes learning Japanese very fun and enjoyable! I'd definitely recommend taking classes with her.

What a wonderful class. We talked the entire time. Kara sensei constantly wrote notes on the chat for me. At the end she said that we had reviewed lessons 1-6 in the book. What a wonderful way to teach. Reviewing material without the student even knowing it. Her class is so much fun. Thank you, Kara sensei.
