Certified Tutor of adults, with over 3 years experience. Hi! My name is Kirsten, a native English speaker from South Africa, based in Pretoria. I have over 3 years of experience tutoring English, working mainly with adult learners from diverse cultural backgrounds. My lessons focus on clear communication, confidence-building, and practical English for real-life use. I am currently developing my skills in IELTS-focused teaching, especially speaking and exam confidence. I aim to create a calm, supportive space where students feel comfortable learning and making progress. I am a very understanding and empathetic teacher, and I always aim to make my students feel comfortable and relaxed in class. I believe students learn best when they feel at ease, so my lessons often feel like a friendly conversation while still being focused and purposeful. My lessons are mostly relaxed and conversation-based, covering a variety of topics that often lead to deeper discussions. I enjoy using debate questions, interesting articles, and guided speaking activities to help students build confidence, fluency, and vocabulary naturally. I am always happy to adapt lessons to each student’s needs. If a more structured or formal lesson is preferred, I can provide organized guidance and focused practice. I am also new to IELTS preparation, but keen to support students with speaking practice and exam confidence.

I want to improve my fluency in spoken English, so I was looking for a lesson where the conversation could flow naturally without too many interruptions or overexplaining. Kirsten did this very well. I felt comfortable throughout the lesson and had plenty of time to practise speaking. I am looking forward to more lessons with her.
