My name is Mariah, or Mari for short. I am a native English speaker from the USA and have been living in the Bahamas for 14 years. I spent several years living part-time in Mexico where I was able to progress with Spanish. I am now learning Italian and plan to travel to Italy. I have published two books about the Bahamas and I enjoy travel, cuisine, and staying active and healthy.Me as a Teacher
I am a writer and published author with a strong understanding of English grammar. After learning Spanish and now learning Italian, I can relate to how difficult the journey is. I am supportive and understanding of the challenges we all face when learning a new language.
Teaching comes naturally to me. Many years ago I was a ski instructor, and I have been a yoga teacher for the past 6 years. When I was in Mexico in 2023 and early 2024, I started and led a casual intercambio language group for native Spanish speakers to connect and practice with native English speakers.
I am currently undergoing my TEFL English language teaching certification.My lessons & teaching style
Getting comfortable with everyday conversation will be the focus. We can also read a book together, talk about photos and images, work on pronunciation, focus on vocabulary expansion, and work on getting past fears of speaking by becoming more comfortable with the vocabulary that you already know.
Nosotros podemos enfocar en la conversación. Tambien, podemos leer un libro juntos, hablar sobre fotografías e imágenes, trabajar en pronunciación, centrarnos en ampliar el vocabulario y trabajar para superar el miedo a conversar utilizando el vocabulario que ya conocemos.My teaching material
