🎓TEF, TCF, DELF, immigration, naturalisation (Canada, France) | 500+ students coached since 2016 Bonjour, hello, hola, buongiorno, привіт, नमस्ते , Guten Tag, 你好, привет! I help adults prepare for the TEF-TCF for Canadian and French immigration. Sound familiar? You've tried apps or conversation / group classes and hit a wall. Or maybe you already took a TEF-TCF test once and didn't score enough points. Either way, you've come to the right place! 🎓I am a certified French teacher that speaks 5+ languages, but I've also been in your shoes. I learned most of my languages on my own, from scratch, as an adult. I know what it's like learning fast, under pressure, in a new environment, with a real goal on the line - and my method reflects that. How I work: Focused, efficient approach I've built specifically for TEF-TCF, not general French (level test, live lessons, self-study prep roadmap, 5-day sprint - with real feedback). Pick the format that fits best. Most of my students start at A1 and reach B2 in 6-8 months, while working full-time or raising a family. 💡Sounding fluent or 'native' is about the right approach. I'll teach you strategic French so you can use it to your advantage, stop translating word by word, and gain clarity in speaking, listening and grammar - and ace your exams. ⚠️Confidentiality: I respect your privacy, lessons are never recorded. ⚠️I only take a limited number of students each week, to keep feedback personal. Book a class, a level test or a prep roadmap - and let's achieve your goal together! A bientôt in the classroom, Teacher Lola

I have been taking lessons with Soulaimane for several months now, and I can clearly see the progress I have made. He has helped me improve my language skills, become more confident, and especially speak more naturally and fluently. His lessons are always enjoyable, well-structured, and adapted to my needs. He creates a comfortable environment where I can speak freely, practice, and learn from my mistakes. I highly recommend Soulaimane to anyone who wants to improve their speaking skills and gain confidence in the language. Thank you, Soulaimane, for your patience, support, and dedication.

Johanna was really great, and I'm very excited to be on this journey with her. She really made me feel at ease, which is impressive because I'm naturally quite shy and also a perfectionist -- which makes speaking in a foreign language very difficult. My level is very mixed because my learning path hasn't been straightforward, and I've used many different methods; but Johanna was able to identify a plan that I believe will work well. I feel very confident that I'll be able to improve my speaking while also shoring up basic grammar structures. She exuded calm and is clearly very organised and experienced.

Well, that's my last review here. I got NCLC7 Expression Orale and NCLC9 EE in my FIRST TEF. This is definitely due to following Youcef's lessons with discipline. If I could give anyone a single advice onto how to get this score, it would be: do not go any farther over Italki searching for a teacher. Start your lessons with Youcef today and stick to the plan, trust the process. Have discipline and study with him. Studying with him is having a friend who really cares about your success and knows everything about the french exams; not only a teacher who corrects mistakes. As I scheduled this last lesson, I only had one objective, and I did it: I taught this phrase my wife and we said together : Merci beaucoup, Youcef !!!

She is the best for both the General French and the DELF preparation! As for the General French, over 4 years my learning experience has evolved thanks to her approach to tailor the lessons. I learn French for a professional objective, and my situation has changed: the language level, the responsibilities on the job, and the context of the work. Accordingly, she has constantly adapted materials and methods. That has developed my skill in an organic way. In terms of DELF preparation, she guided me step by step. At the beginning, DELF felt daunting. She began with basics but the guidance did not limit to them: from the grammar to the quality of arguments, from required vocabulary to nuances and precision, from pointing out recurring errors to identifying the areas to develop. By the day of the test, the fear had transformed to confidence. She walked me through the learning journey with a strong engagement and encouragement. That motivated me and consolidated my French. Thank you Jade!

Really happy with my lessons with Amma so far! Still prepping for the TCF, but every lesson is focused and practical — lots of exam-style practice, clear explanations, and genuinely helpful feedback. What I appreciate most is how patient and clear she is, stuff I used to struggle with actually makes sense now. Already feel a lot more confident in my French. Highly recommend if you're working toward the TCF specifically!

I have been taking lessons with Manu for about 2 months now, and he's the best. I really appreciate the attention he puts into crafting a course to tailor my needs, and he's excellent at finding areas you can improve at and working on them together. The course I take with him is a great mix of conversation and discussion, while also taking time to cover grammatical points or pronunciation when needed. In the two months we've been working together I feel like my conversational abilities have seen a real improvement, and I'm looking forward to continuing taking lessons with him.

Professeure Gilee is an excellent teacher. In fact, out of the 3 or 4 teacher's I've had on iTalki, she is the one who has provided the most structure to our lessons and provides goals to attain and works towards those goals consistently. Rather than just speaking with someone, which is important, she has provided opportunities for role playing that forces me to structure my conversations differently and develop new ways of speaking rather than relying on more basic forms. She is helping me to enrich my vocabulary and my communication style!

Sabine Lea is the best french teacher I have ever met, she makes everything so easy to understand that you want to learn more and more. With her tools she makes every lesson fun and something to look forward in your day.She has a very warm and welcoming personality that you feel like you are talking to your friend and not your teacher. She always has a clear plan and lots of interesting activities to do in our lessons. Also she adapts our lessons to my needs and wants. We mix different parts of french throughout our lessons like having a french conservation adapted to my level about my day and habits at the beginning of each lesson sometimes followed by reading a passage about the things that i am interested in and so much more different stuff.Even when i am tired she adapts the intensity of the course that i never get overwhelmed whilst learning french. She is a great teacher and i can assure you that you will learn french super easily.

Taking a class with Taka is like taking a class with my friend. Although he always has lessons ready to teach me, many times we end up discussing a variety of other topics because I love asking questions. Me being a curious person is not a problem for Taka because he is patient and always ready with answers. He gives examples and uses photos to help explain and make sure I understand. Best of all, Taka speaks at a pace that I can comprehend. He is able to speed up the pace or slow down if I give a questioning look. I always look forward to my classes with Taka. Thank you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TELC exam, and why should I take it?

The TELC (The European Language Certificates) exam is an internationally recognized test that assesses proficiency in various European languages, including French. Offered at levels A1 to C2, the TELC exam evaluates your skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is widely recognized across Europe by employers, educational institutions, and government agencies, making it a valuable credential for anyone looking to work, study, or live in a French-speaking country.

Taking the TELC exam can benefit job seekers who need proof of language ability for professional roles, students applying to universities, or individuals applying for residency or citizenship. The certification can enhance your resume and demonstrate your commitment to achieving fluency in French. With a TELC certificate, you can more confidently navigate professional or academic settings, knowing your language skills meet recognized European standards.

What TELC levels can I prepare for with an italki tutor?

With an italki tutor, you can prepare for all TELC levels, from A1 to C2. Each level corresponds to a different stage of language proficiency: A1 and A2 cover beginner skills, focusing on foundational vocabulary, simple phrases, and basic conversational abilities. At the intermediate levels, B1 and B2, tutors help you develop more complex sentence structures, improve fluency, and understand a wider range of everyday topics. For advanced learners, C1 and C2 levels emphasize mastery in reading, writing, and speaking, preparing you to use French confidently in professional, academic, or social settings. Italki tutors provide tailored lessons based on your target level, using practice exercises, past TELC exam materials, and personalized feedback to strengthen your skills and prepare you for success at any TELC level.

What materials will my tutor use to prepare me for the TELC exam?

To prepare for the TELC exam, your tutor will use a variety of materials designed to cover all aspects of the test. These typically include past TELC exam papers and practice tests, which familiarize you with the exam format and help you understand the types of questions you’ll encounter. Your tutor may also use textbooks and grammar workbooks that align with the TELC levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2), providing exercises to improve your language skills. Additionally, listening exercises, reading comprehension passages, and writing prompts will help you build proficiency in the four key areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Tutors may also incorporate online resources, vocabulary lists, and interactive activities tailored to your level. By using a combination of authentic exam materials and personalized instruction, your tutor ensures you’re fully prepared for the TELC exam.

Can lessons be conducted in English if I’m a beginner?

Yes, lessons can be conducted in English if you’re a beginner. Many tutors on italki are experienced in helping students who are new to French, and they use English to explain grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation concepts clearly. This can make it easier for beginners to understand the basics and feel comfortable as they start learning. As your skills improve, your tutor will gradually incorporate more French into lessons to help you immerse in the language and practice actively. This transition allows you to build confidence while working toward full comprehension in French.

How long should I study for the TELC exam?

The amount of study time needed for the TELC exam depends on your current proficiency level and the level you aim to achieve (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, or C2). Generally, for beginners preparing for A1 or A2, around 2-3 months of consistent study with a tutor can be effective. Intermediate levels, such as B1 and B2, may require 3-6 months of focused preparation, while advanced levels (C1 and C2) could need 6 months to a year, depending on your goals and starting point.

Studying for the TELC involves practicing all key language skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—using mock exams, vocabulary building, and grammar exercises. A tutor can help you create a structured study plan, focusing on your weaker areas and providing regular feedback. By studying consistently and gradually increasing your exposure to the language, you can feel confident and well-prepared for the TELC exam.
