My name is Gabriela, I'm Colombian but I grew up in Italy. After finishing high school I moved to London and then to Paris. I'm currently living in London, I just finished my masters degree in Conference Interpreting in Spanish and English and before I did my undergraduate degree in Translation in English and French. During my spare time I love reading and travelling. Languages are my passion, this is why I like to meet new people from different countries, to learn more about their cultures, practice and learn more languages. I’m currently learning Mandarin, Portuguese and German. I've always liked to learn new languages so I know how difficult it can be, what is important is to make the class interesting and make you feel comfortable. Speaking is a great way too improve and keep practicing a language, it's even better if the topics are interesting. During the classes we can talk about anything you want, it is important that you feel motivated and enjoy the lesson.

Cerco di essere l’insegnante che, da studentessa, avrei voluto incontrare: una persona che ti aiuti a riconoscere il tuo modo di imparare e che ritaglia metodi e materiali sulle tue esigenze. Non seguo un stile di insegnamento rigido: ascolto chi studia con me e costruisco insieme a loro un percorso su misura. Dedico molto tempo alla preparazione delle lezioni, scegliendo o creando materiali utili ma anche stimolanti, capaci di stimolare la curiosità e gli interessi. In aula o online, la mia priorità è creare un ambiente rilassato e accogliente, dove la conversazione diventa lo sfondo naturale per lavorare insieme sull’italiano. Mi chiamo Simonetta e vivo in Italia. Da sempre mi affascina tutto ciò che ha a che fare con le lingue straniere. Parlo tedesco, inglese e spagnolo ad un buon livello; ma, al di là di questo, c'è sempre un modo per capirsi! Iniziare una conversazione parlando della vita di ogni giorno può offrire spunti per parlare di altri argomenti e discutere diversi temi. Credo che destreggiarsi nella conversazione sia lo scopo di quasi tutti quelli che desiderano imparare una lingua straniera. Posso proporre esercizi di grammatica, vocabolario o comprensione. Quello che secondo me è più importante, però, è la comprensione della lingua orale. Per questo cerco di dare più importanza alla conversazione, soprattutto se riguarda eventi quotidiani. Penso anche che la lettura sia un buon metodo per migliorare la pronuncia e ascolto volentieri chi desideri leggere.

I feel like I'm more of a friendly face correcting your errors and pushing you to practice and talk. I think a lot can be done alone with books but what makes talking to a native special is that one goes beyond the (often boring) book and is able to interact and have an exchange with the person. I studied languages in school and for a year in university. I know Italian grammar well and I love grammar in general. I translated for years and got to realise how hard it can be to use the language but also how beautiful Italian is. I do not teach children or complete beginners. I don't have the expertise and don't want to ruin the experience for them!
