Italian native with over 3 years of teaching experience Hi! My name's Serena, I'm 29 and I come from Italy. I graduated in Songwriting in London, where I lived for 4 years before coming back to my home country. I am passionate about music, faith, good food, travelling and reading! I now moved to Rome from Genova, where my family lives, and I spend my days teaching languages and songwriting, playing live shows, organising events and writing songs. I've always been passionate about languages, starting from English, which I've been teaching every day since 2022, firstly in a language school and later privately. I am also teaching Italian, my mother tongue, as I've met more and more people who are interested in learning this beautiful language. Since I've been learning new languages myself (Portuguese, for example) I know what the difficulties can be and how to overcome them! My lessons are based on conversation, going deeper into the grammar of the language once I notice lack of knowledge or confusion. I've noticed that this is the most efficient way, at least for me and the students I'm working with, as filling the lesson with grammar rules can be a bit counter-productive. The teaching approach will be adapted to my students' needs: we can just talk for the whole lesson, do grammar exercises, do listening activities, depending on preferences!

I have a PhD in Linguistics and Psychology: language and how you can learn it are my passions! I taught for two years Italian to foreign students at my University. They had very different background so it was very challenging but also fulfilling! A grat opportunity, also for me, to learn a lot. It was a excellent challenge for me understanding what was the better method for each of them. For the past six years I have been teaching Italian to teenagers and adults online, helping them preparing school exam or certifications (also for the citizenship language test), or improving their conversation in view of a trip to Italy or a career change I think that everyone has a particular and specific way of learning, I would like to discuss with the students and find the better approach considering their goals and expectations. I usually focus on conversation but without neglecting a basis of grammar and some knowledge of Italian culture. I also like to include in my lessons examples of real use of language, such as newspapers articles, books, songs, according to the level of the students.

Le mie lezioni (A1-C2) comprendono lo sviluppo delle quattro competenze chiave (lettura, scrittura, ascolto, conversazione) tramite materiali di livello progressivo, dalla lingua semplificata a quella autentica. Trovo molto utile l’esercizio della conversazione, perché permette allo studente sia di mettere alla prova le sue competenze che di acquisire nuovo vocabolario dall’insegnante in tempo reale. È importate apprendere la lingua nel suo contesto, senza memorizzazione inutile, per questo non ti chiederò mai di imparare qualcosa a memoria. Persino la grammatica è più facile da comprendere quando si va oltre le liste di verbi e si vedono le frasi come parti di un discorso. Sono cresciuta bilingue (italiano-inglese) e conosco il francese a un livello avanzato, perciò sono sicura di poterti aiutare sia se stai imparando le prime parole che se hai bisogno di comprendere le più complesse sfumature del vocabolario. Ho esperienza nell’insegnamento sia ad adulti che ad adolescenti e bambini. Non vedo l’ora di poterti aiutare ad esprimerti meglio in italiano!
