Easy & Useful Phrases

“May I?”  When you want to ask if you are allowed to do something.
e.g., asking if you can take photos, sample some food, or sit next to somebody. 
If the person says yes, you should say “suimasen” or “arigatougozaimasu

“Thank you.” “ I’m sorry.” “ Excuse me” (getting someone’s attention)   
(Say it with a bow.  )                         

Sumimasen -the standard form. Suimasen -the casual/colloquial form. 

Arigato also means thank you

“Please,” or a greeting which is used to show appreciation and/or respect 

e.g., “Ramen onegaishimasu.”= “Ramen, please?” 
Say it with a light bow (nod your head slightly).

We say “Onegaishimasu” at the beginning of a

“Hi” or “Thanks” (very casual but please bow), “Very”

If you say ”Domo arigato” with a bow, it sounds more appreciative than just saying arigato.

“Are you okay？” “Is it okay?”

“Daijyoubu?” is a casual way to say it.

e.g., “Can I step in here with my shoes on?”

“Where is….”

Where is the station? Eki wa dokodesuka?
Eki means station.
