To brown. When you prepare a "Pasta al pomodoro" you always brown the onion with oil and salt and then you add the tomato sauce!

To toast. In Italy we like to have "pane tostato" with tomatoes in summer, which is also known as "bruschetta".

To grill. Especially in Esther we do the "grigliata", we grill many types of meat and veggies such as "costolette" (lamb chops) and "melanzane" (aubergine).
