5-1. 地震や台風などの速報でよく使われることば

きんきゅう / emergency
例）緊急のときは、下記の私の番号に連絡してください。 / In case of an emergency please contact me on the phone number below.

じしん / an earthquake
例）緊急地震速報 / Earthquake Early Warning

しんど / seismic intensity
例）昨夜、震度５の地震があったのを知っていますか。 / Do you know there was an earthquake with an intensity of five?

magnitude
例）今日沖縄県でマグニチュード7.2の地震があったと聞きました。気をつけてくださいね。 / I heard there was a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Okinawa prefecture today. Please stay safe.

ゆれ / shaking
例）地面が揺れているのを感じた。 / I felt the ground shaking.

よしん / an aftershock
例）余震に気をつけてお過ごしください。 / Please be careful of aftershocks from the earthquake.

しゅうちゅうごうう / a localized downpour

ふうそく / the velocity of the wind
例）最大風速40メートルの台風 / a typhoon with a maximum wind velocity of 40 meter per second

けいほう / a warning
例）洪水警報 / a heavy flood warning

ちゅういほう / an advisory
例）強風注意報 / a gale advisory

おき / open sea
例）インド洋スマトラ島沖地震 / earthquake in the Indian Ocean off Sumatra

はっせい・する / to occur
例）今日から明日にかけて津波が発生するおそれがありますので、注意してください。From tonight until tomorrow, there is a possibility that a tsunami may occur, so please take precautions.

ひなん・する / to escape, to evacuate

けいかい・する / to be cautious of ~

よびかける / to appeal to ~
例）警戒を呼びかける / express alarm, call for vigilance

えいきょう・する / to affect
例）本日は大雨の影響により電車が遅れています。 / Trains are delayed due to a heavy rainfall today.

けっこう・する / to cancel (flight)
例）台風の接近によって、飛行機や船は欠航しています。 /Airplanes and ships have been cancelled due to the approaching typhoon.

きろく・する / to register (on the Richter scale)

みあわせる / to suspend
例）地震により運転を見合わせております。
Train services have been suspended due to the earthquake.
