Simple question but very intriguing one. Thanks for asking. Let me try to answer with an example so that it helps to understand better. “More” is used when there’s a definite measurable items in sentence. Let’s say “add two more apples” “ten more miles to go” etc. “Most” is used when there’s an indefinite items in sentence. Let’s say “most of them made it on time” etc Hope this helps. Thanks.

The difference between most and more is like the difference between best and better. More means a higher quantity and most means the highest quantity. Ex: There are three boxes of bananas. The first box has two bananas. The second box has five bananas. The third box has ten bananas. The second box has "more" bananas than the first box. The third box has "more" bananas than the first box and the second box because it has the "most" bananas.
