100 Days Challenge. 5/100 Is consumerism ruining our lives? I’ve been thinking, how much our lives are controlled by consumerism. Have you ever noticed? how some people have to purchase new stuff each year and some things are made to break. Unfortunately, this is the bedrock of our society though. More people purchasing new stuff creates more jobs. The point is, how this is making us addicted and chasing a sort of happiness that is not real. Media has been using advertisement to make us purchasing new things because they sell is for us, promising happiness. If you buy this new smartphone, you will take better pictures to show your perfect life. People have started to associate new things with happiness at certain point that if I have a bad day, I will buy something to feel good. This is resulting in highest levels of depression and anxiety in our society and also tons of garbage. This is my humble opinion. Every time you feel a desire to purchase new stuff, try to think if you really need it or if there is something you can do to feel at the same way, if you purchased it.
