Tell me please, can I use word "hometown", talking about Moscow, which surely is a city? I mean, as i know, "town" is only for small places?

Yes, home town is perfect... Town is also for big places.

Yes, you can. Where I am we call London 'town'. I'm going up to town means I'm going to central London.
