So, I’ve begun watching movies/shows in French and listening to some French music, but I also want to get a book or two in French. Any suggestions?

I love the Simenon novels about Inspector Maigret (though I usually have to read them in English, or look at the dictionary a lot). The good news it that, if you like them, there are A LOT of them.

Reading you can obviously pump up the level a bit. Some simpler, classic novels: Bonjour Tristesse, and the four main novels of Marcel Pagnol are great options (La Gloire de mon Pere - forgive the lack of accent - is particularly lovely). Matt

I'm reading Le Prince de la Brume. It's a young adult novel so for my level of French I'm able to follow it.

I bought a second-hand kindle and downloaded the count of Monte Cristo from project Gutenberg. The best thing about the kindle is you can have a French dictionary on it, so everytime you don't know a word you just hold your finger on it and the dictionary opens. It's not a french-english dictionary so you have to read the definitions in French, but for the price of a ten dollar kindle it is pretty awesome. Some say Dumas is old French, but he's an awesome author and his books are free to download.
