Hi! Could you please, answer a question for me? If my boss says to me: Don't be late! A friend of mine approaches me and says: What he said? I know that if I say: "My boss told me not to be late" is correct. But, if I say: My boss said to me: Don't be late! Is it correct, too? Or not? Many thanks in advance! Sincerely, Nelson

The first one is correct. Just one more thing, your friend is going to ask you “what did he say?”, Then you reply with the first or the second by saying: he said “Don’t be late”. You don’t need to tell your friend “he said to me”, you both know he said it to you.

Both are correct . But the first sounds more natural for an English speaker. The second would be quoting your boss which sounds and looks better and on paper.

I think both of them are right, but according to Chinese ,I advice that you use the first one.It will be more clear!
