It's from a cartoon in 'Punch' magazine (a Victorian satirical magazine). It shows a curate having breakfast with the bishop. The bishop says that he is afraid that the curate's egg is bad. The curate replies that parts of it are very good. It is a joke about how the less powerful, even though they suffer, have to be polite to appease the more powerful.
