Exam answer The shop should have opened by now. I think my answer is aslo correct, because we can use passive voice here. Shop can be open by someone. Am I right. Thanks in advance.

The book answer is correct and natural. English grammar has the active voice, middle voice, and passive voice. Examples: The man opens the shop at 8.30 every day. [active voice, active meaning] The shop opens at 8.30 every day. [middle voice, passive meaning] The shop is opened at 8.30 every day (by the man). [passive voice, passive meaning] More examples: The eggs cooked/cooks/will cook in five minutes. The eggs burned/burn/will burn in ten minutes. The door opened/opens/will open. The door closed/closes/will close.
