Tricks for language learning No. 1
I will share some of my language learning advice with you. This is a general advice, I give to my students. And it is valid for any language you could possibly study. Here we go with the first:
Get clear about your motivation.
It sounds so easy, but it can make a huge impact on how your learning progresses and flows.
Do you study the language for work? Do you want to go abroad to study? Are you fascinated with the culture? With the landscape? Which part exactly captures your interest? Be as clear as you can about it.
You could write it down. Are you a visual person? Maybe you want to help your eye with pictures? Or colours? You could even create a picture of the different parts that add to your reason for learning this language.
In the sencond step, I would invite you to extend this "motivational bridge": BEFORE even starting to learn the language! Try to find out as much as you can about the language, the places where it is spoken and the surrounding culture!
Don't take this task too seriously! Just have fun researching. Stick to things that you find interesting. And skip parts that seem boring. Maybe you will come back to that later. Maybe not.
Think about: Movies and series that have been translated into your language. History. Landscapes. Geography. Food.
This is a way of getting nearer to a language. Don't forget: You are about to open a door to a whole new world by learning a new language! Help yourself by mapping a bit what expects you on the other side!
I hope, this helped you. If you wish, share with me in the comments below, what you found out and what you added to your initial motivation! I look forward to reading you!
