Hello! Using prepositions depends greatly on if you're using the for time or for place. And, of course, for both situations there are exceptions. Time For example, when talking about prepositions of time it depends on how specific you're being. 'On' is usually used for anything with a day. Example, on Wednesday, on June 19th, on May 3rd 1982, etc. 'In' is usually used when you're referring to a month or a season. Example, in April, in summer, in the winter of 1851. 'At' is used for a specific time. Example, at 2 o'clock, at 4pm, at midnight. *NOTE* if you are using all of those then sometimes one rule cancels another and other times you need more than one preposition. Like with a date you use 'on' even though the month is included but if you also have a time you need both 'on' and 'at' Example. "The wedding will be held on Monday, December 12th, 2021 at 7pm in the evening." There are some exceptions of course. For time of day they have their own rules, "in the morning," "in the afternoon," "in the evening," but we say, "at night." Place 'In' is usually used to mean inside. Example, in my bag, the card is in the envelope, it's in the house. However, there are exceptions we sometimes say 'in' for parks (The party is happening in the park later today) but 'at' could also work in that sentence. 'On' is usually used to mean on top of. Example, the keys are on the table, the book is on the shelf, there's a bug on the floor. However, we also use 'on' for most shared transportation (on the bus, on a plane, on a train) 'At' is used to talk about a location generally without thinking about inside or outside. Example, "I left my keys at work," "I'm at school right now," "The sale is at 123 South Street" We almost always say "at home" because 'home' is the location but we can say, at/in my apartment or at/in my house depending on the context. This is a long answer but this is certainly better explained in a lesson with examples. I hope this longwinded post can help!
