Ezzat, I think you were just trying to interact with other italki users when you created that post.

But it is considered offensive if you express an opinion that diminishes women, gays, or any other group of people. It's not acceptable in significant parts of the world, also considered very bad by international standards.

If you really want to interact with people, you should choose subjects for conversation that are not offensive. Otherwise people will just feel insulted and they will be negative towards you, or just ignore you.

To be clear, you are not a misunderstood genius and you need to stick with basic rules of respect that are commonly acknowledged by society if you want to interact with others.

I hope google translate doensn't muddle my point.

Frankly, it boggles my mind that you're shocked about being perceived as offensive. Do you live in a bubble? Because even in Arab culture, this mentality hardly goes unchallenged. In my social circles, if you made such sexist remarks, you'd probably be shouted down and ostracized. I don't know about Sudan, but I have several Sudanese friends who are feminists, so I'm willing to bet that there's at least some kind of feminist movement in the country.

This is not a cultural problem; it's really your own problem. We live in the 21st century, and you have access to the internet. Please educate yourself and perhaps you'll realize why people thought what you said was offensive.

@ Chris and Abdullah , the OP in his latest identity says he’s from Sudan and lives in Saudi Arabia. In previous identities he just mentioned Sudan.

Ah I could have mentioned also the blogger Raif Badawi, he is one of those Saudi citizens that know perfectly that we are not living in the Middle Age anymore. Well he’s also in jail. Do not know if it is the same prison as the one where Ashraf is hold.

@Ezzat you have multiple accounts with multiple outfits. Personally I do not like people who fool around with multiple accounts. I also did not like what you were writing with the “journalist” outfit. But wouldn’t flag you though.

I have more important issues to fight for on the internet for instance the freedom for opinion prisoners like Fayad Ashraf who is detained in your country with ridiculous charges and risked the death penalty. So do not play victim on italki. Try to improve freedom of expression where you live.

Augusta writes (in part):
“I hope google translate doesn't muddle my point.”

Augusta, excuse me for blowing your cover, but that’s definitely not machine translated — that’s educated native speaker (equivalent) quality English. (Don’t worry — most people seeking language partners don’t read the discussions — not even their own.)
