Beyond your apology
The problem with those who hurt us is not forgiveness. It's with the demons inside them and with their real personalities which will show up again one day.

I am frequently learning to conquer my defect to make me happier and positive, that includes learning more from my mistakes and forgiving other's faults. That is an amazing and challenging journey to face myself in the flesh.  Self is the most terrible devil in the world, I assume.

I agree on the point featured by NeaIC that the most horrible and formidable enemy is yourself. You might forgive somebody at a moment subject to the condition but you still have a long time learning to put it down in your mind to genuinely forget and forgive the person who offended you. That is not an easy task to accomplish at all but as a decent human being, we have no choice but to sincerely forgive ourselves as well as others in order to  have a happy life in the future.

I do not think we must accept another one without further context, quite on the contrary in my opinion, acceptance for someone else is a kind of favor to yourself , being nice to yourself rather than a kindness to the person you are hesitant to accept.

In my opinion the strength of Christianity is it teachers us to deal with the sin inside OURselves.

In my opinion the weakness in Islam is its followers so often only wish to deal with the sin in others.

Or in the words of Michael Jackson, why not start with the man in the mirror?

The topic is not about taking reaction against any human characterized by that,It's about how sorry we are to accept the reality of accepting those people in our life.
