What is the cause of hiding friends on Facebook? I've noticed that some people hide their friend list on Facebook. Do they care about friends' security that way?

Facebook had its day in the sun years ago, maybe 8 year ago or longer, but it’s losing ground now and people are either dissolving their FB pages entirely, privitizing everything, or the‘ve just stopped posting. The creators of Facebook are coming out publically saying they knew how damaging and addictive Facebook would be when they started it, even hired casino experts to advise them on how to make it as addictive as possible, and then went on to make billions of dollars over it. These same people said they‘d never had or would have facebook pages themselves. It reminds me of the tobacco industry.

People post far more about their personal lives than they should on FB and make it public. Then they wonder why they got turned down for a job when the employer calmly says, „Well we saw your facebook page“. Stay off FB I say. Or leave it forever and never return. It’s a trap for the unwary. They even discourage people from leaving FB. They offer „three month holds“ on data they‘ve collected in case a person wants to return. That ought to be a red flag to everyone.

@Ezzat

Thanks.

You know, originally you couldn’t privitize anything on Facebook. That all came later when people started getting wise to Facebook‘s billionaire creators, and what they were up to, and started leaving or stopped posting. So, to keep people on, FB executives created these „privacy“ settings. Okay, the privacy settings may keep other FB members from seeing something, but who else? Ever wonder about that? Do you really believe FB employees can’t get around your „privacy“ settings anytime they want? Why wouldn’t they be able to? Then there’s the government. Does anyone seriously believe a government agency can’t get around FB‘s privacy settings? Many people might say, „Oh, I’ve got nothing to hide so it’s okay.“ No, it’s not okay. That’s not what a right of privacy means.

I think there is something very sinister about Facebook. It was started as billion dollar money making venture the world feel for. No one needs it. If you can find a limited purpose for it fine. I find no purpose in it.

Because some people believe that your facebook friends are automatically their friends as well. Especially the female ones. They start scoping them out and sending them unwarranted messages. That's why it's sometimes essential to hide your friends list.

The siren song of facebook is to lure people in with the promise of 'connections' and 'friends.' Once you heed the call, you're a victim of it's voracious appetite to exploit you.
