My favorite planet is Jupiter, because it is bright and easy to see. It's not as bright as Venus, but it is still brighter than any star, so it's easy to recognize. It is visible most of the time--if it's not visible in the early evening, it's visible before dawn. It's often nice and high up in the sky, so I can see it in my neighborhood where the horizon is blocked by trees and houses.

And I like it because it is so big that you can see a visible disk--just barely--in binoculars--and with my small telescope I can actually see that it not perfectly round but slightly oval, I can see the four "Galilean satellites" looking like little stars that are always in a straight line. One night, when I stayed up late, I was able to look at Jupiter through a small telescope at about 7 pm and then again later at about 1 am. I was able to see the red spot, and I could see that it had moved between 7 pm and 1 am--so I was able to see, from my own observations, that Jupiter rotates.
