"That" - omitting

Hi, there


Do you use "that" in sentences like "These are words (THAT) a professor would believe are innapropriate"? Would you omit "that" here?

I should stress that I meant to say "a restrictive relative clause where 'that' represents the object (not the subject) of the relative clause)."

Yes, it’s fine to omit “that” at the beginning of a restrictive relative clause. Personally, I would prefer to drop “that” in your example, since there’s no risk of ambiguity and “that” contributes nothing whatsoever to the meaning.
