Today even after many, many years later, I still remember my first impression when I took a whiff of the fruit's smell.  It smelled like someone farted.  Now it still smells bad, but I don't notice it anymore.  It is just like any other smelly food.  It tastes sweet.  I like to eat it frozen.  It is like eating ice cream.  The smell also isn't as pungent.  At room temperature, while still sweet, it is like eating something soggy.  I don't like that.  Eating it frozen is much better.

It smells like gas or just like Alex mentioned...fart. Don't eat it until it is overripe. It will smell even more terrible and taste mushy.
