Comfort Food
It’s winter right now in South Africa, and I’m finding myself reaching for the “not so good food” . What are some of your favourite comfort foods, that you know you should probably not be eating all the time!!

I'm a US native speaker.

1) Macaroni and cheese. Nowadays the name is usually shortened to "Mac and cheese."

2) Chicken and rice. I think my mom wanted to avoid the ethnic stereotype of "chicken soup and rice." When I was a kid and I got sick, my mom always gave me chicken and rice. The chicken would have been broiled, or fried without any breading. The rice was always Uncle Ben's Converted Rice, and today, this is still the only rice that tastes "right" to me.

3) A peanut butter sandwich.

I have two.

The first is traditional Bengali: plain fragrant rice with plenty of ghee (clarified butter used widely here), with either mashed potatoes and boiled eggs flavoured with a few drops of raw mustard oil OR lentil soup (we call it daal) and crispy fried potato shavings (not chips but similar).

The other is plain white bread soaked in cold milk, with a fair bit of orange marmalade, honey, raisins and cashews. This is my own invention so it's not traditional at all.
