Books to recommend for American English
Have you got any books or novels written in American slang, rather northern, to recommend? Hopefully it helps pick up the natural expressions and phrases to sound pretty natural for casual conversation.

I'd recommend "Bright Light Big City" by Jay McInerney. "There There" by Tommy Orange would also be good, if you're interested in West Coast slang. A good introduction, but a history book would be "Can't Stop Won't Stop" by Jeff Chang, which is a history of American hip-hop. Hope this helps!

Where'd You Go, Bernadette? Set largely in Seattle, very modern, idiomatic English, lots of e-speak - and very funny in parts. But this is quite advanced reading.

Among what you suggested, I loved 'Set largely in Seattle' as it's more like what I've been looking up. I've got to give the last one a try as well, although it's an advanced reading. Thank you very much for your time, Michael.

I can't thank you enough for coming up with these amazing books among which "Can't Stop Won't Stop" seems best suits my purpose. It's an awesome one!
